➜ Most Maya people live within marginalized communities and will never read a book in the Mayan language. ➜ Most of the written Mayan language was lost due to colonialism in the 16th century and has not been recovered. ➜ Every day, some of their most treasured cultural sites are lost to history due to economic development, climate change, trafficking, overtourism, or other threats. ➜ As many as 10,000 Maya sites have yet to be excavated.
